Bro. Jimmy Sykes
Bro. Jimmy Sykes has been the Pastor of Oak Grove Baptist since November 2012. Prior to his calling to Oak Grove, Bro. Jimmy worked as a pharmacist, district manager, then Vice President of Pharmacy Operations for a national retail pharmacy chain. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Science degree from the University of Mississippi. His favorite thing about about serving at Oak Grove is serving a people who have a sincere and deep love for Christ and a passionate desire for the Word of God. He enjoys spending time with his family and reading in his spare time. Other than the Bible, his favorite books are How to Pray by RA Torrey and Mere Christianity by CS Lewis.
Bro. Dalton Starkey
Bro. Dalton Starkey has been the youth pastor at Oak Grove Baptist since August 2014. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Studies from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary and is currently a candidate for the Master of Divinity degree from Mid-America. He enjoys attending various sporting events; spending time with his wife Ashtyn; playing with his dog Greta; and everything Disney, Marvel, and the Princess Bride. His favorite thing about serving at Oak Grove is being with a group of Believers who genuinely love Christ and are excited to see His Name be lifted high.
Bro. Joe Thompson
Bro. Joe S Thompson has been the music minister at Oak Grove Baptist since May 2016. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Mississippi State University and a Master degree from Delta State University. He enjoys golf, physical fitness, and all of C.S. Lewis’s Narnia stories. His favorite thing about serving at Oak Grove is serving alongside Bro. Jimmy, Bro. Dalton, and his wife; as well as worshipping with his church family.
Mrs. Mary Curtis Thompson
Mrs. Mary Curtis has been the pianist at Oak Grove Baptist since May 2016. “I have been in Music Ministry with my husband for many years,” she says, “and absolute have been blessed by the opportunity to serve the Lord. I actually began playing some for church as a 9 year old in my home church in Eupora, MS. I went to Delta State University where I met my husband who I married in 1969. Music Ministry has been a joy for me as I have played both the organ and piano and also directed Children’s Choirs. I have loved our time here at Oak Grove and pray that God continues to use me in His service here.”
